William H. Ingalls, Sr., 85, of Lower Hampden Road, died Saturday May 16, 2009. Born in Newton, MA to the late Herbert E. and Abbie A. (Furbush) Ingalls. He was a 1941 graduate of Swampscott High School, and a 1949 graduate of Boston University. Bill was a direct descendent of Edmund and Francis Ingalls who were the original settlers of Lynn, MA in1623. He served his country with the US Navy during WWII. He then retired after more than 30 years as the assistant comptroller with Northeast Utilities. Bill was a member of the First Church of Monson Congregational, a 50 year member of the Montague Lodge of Masons, a member of the Melha Temple in Springfield where he active in the Jesters Club and played in the military band for Shriners. Bill played trombone in the Memories Dance Band and the Longmeadow Destruction Company. He also sang barbershop for many years and sang in the Chirp and Burp Society. Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Ingalls was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Nancy (Harlow) Ingalls in 1999. He is survived by their children,Susan G. Moritz and her husband George of Virginia Beach, VA, Deborah L. Wheeler and her husband Joel of Monson and William H. Ingalls, Jr of Dunbarton, NH and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11am in the First Church of Monson 3 High St. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, May 21 from 5-8pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson, MA 01057. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104, Quaboag Valley Hospice 42B Wright St. Palmer, MA 01069, SGT William Harlow Family Association c/o Deborah L.
