William R Martell

June 26, 1939 — March 7, 2022


Pelham-William R. Martell, 82, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022.  Bill was born in Springfield June 26, 1939 to the late William M. and Angelina M. (Niderno) Martell.  He was a graduate of Monson Academy and lived in Monson for may years before moving to Pelham in 1981 where he owned and operated Gate 8 Bait Shop and Swift River Candle along with his wife Kathy.  Bill loved fishing the Quabbin Reservoir with family and friends.  He would often be gone from the break of day until the sun began to set. Bill was a Selectman in the Town of Pelham and a member of the Pelham Finance Committee for many years, he also was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Belchertown.

Bill leaves his wife of 42 years, Kathleen M. (Herlihy) Martell; his daughter, Melanie Kent and her husband Dana of Ware; a son Jan Martell and his wife Tammi of Ohio; grandchildren, Matthew Kent, Evan Martell, Cole Martell, Reese Martell and John "Jack" Martell. Bill also leaves nieces and nephews and many friends.  Bill was predeceased by his son, John Martell February 1st of this year and his brother Walter Martell.

Services will be held Saturday April 2, 2022 with visitation from 12-3pm and a Memorial service in remembrance of both Bill and John will be held at 3pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson, MA 01057.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution in Bill's name to Hope United Methodist Church 31 Main St. Belchertown MA 01007.
