Springfield- William Anson “Bill” MacGregor, 68, beloved father of Avery Elizabeth and James Ryan MacGregor, passed away February 12, 2021 after a brief illness with family at his side. Bill was born in South Hadley, MA, the son of James Gordon MacGregor and Lois Anson MacGregor, who predeceased him. He was a graduate of UMass Boston, and most recently was a Senior Vice President with TD Bank until his retirement in 2020. As Secretary of the Springfield Redevelopment Authority, he worked for more than a decade on projects such as the preservation and restoration of Springfield’s historic Union Station, which was rededicated in 2017, and on successful downtown economic revitalization initiatives such as MGM Springfield. He was a talented and lifelong avid jazz guitarist, a fly fisherman and a skilled amateur chef. He will be best remembered as a thoughtful and dedicated parent, brother and friend whose wisdom, humor and kindness will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his beloved children Avery MacGregor of Chicago, Il, and James Ryan MacGregor of Springfield, MA, by his sister Ruth McCabe and her husband Bruce McCabe of Lincoln, RI, nephews Matt McCabe of Medway, MA, Colin McCabe of Lincoln, RI, Greg Pyle of St. Cloud, FL and Jacob Pendlebury of Marblehead, MA, and by nieces Sydney Drayton of Peabody, MA and Erica Ford of Salem, MA, and a broad circle of family, friends, fellow musicians and associates for whom the world is less bright without him.
