Biography

Hampden- William H. Graves, 77, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, surrounded by the love of family. Born in Springfield December 11, 1935 to the late Rutherford N. and Dorothy F. (Wadleigh) Graves. Bill was educated and raised in Palmer and has been a long time resident of Hampden. Bill served in the US Navy during Korea. He was a licensed electrician and retired from Clarke & Falcetti in Holyoke after many years. Bill was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in East Longmeadow, Local IBEWLU #7, and the Springfield Sportsman Club in Monson. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and loved dogs.

Bill leaves his wife off 55 years Irene F. (Vickers) Graves and their children, Marcia Porter and her husband David of Monson, David W. Graves of Monson and Kristin Hilf and her husband David of Sudbury; a brother Nelson Graves and his wife Gunvor of Palmer; a sister, Ola M. Dane of Palmer; three grandchildren, Hayley Porter, Benjamin Hilf and Daniel Hilf and his beloved golden retriever "Chance."


Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1 Porter Road, East Longmeadow with burial to follow at Adams Cemetery on Tinkham Road in Wilbraham. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
