Monson-Virginia C. Midyette, 94, of Monson died February 27, 2016 surrounded by the love of family. She was predeceased by her husband Allen L Midyette in 2013. Virginia was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield and Smith College in Northampton.  She served in the US Navy in WWII in the first class of "WAVES". She and Allen met while in the Navy and were married in 1944.  They moved to Monson in 1948.  Virginia taught Art in the Hampden Public Schools and
at the Children's Study Home in Springfield.  She was instrumental in the fundraising for the 1990 addition to the Monson Free Library.  Her art work is well known.  She was an active member of the Monson Arts Council and the Friends at the Keep Homestead Museum.  Virginia was the Monson Rotary Club Citizen of the year in 2013.

Virginia is survived by her nephews and nieces; Reverend Mark C. Sullivan (Jane), Anne S. Waskom (William), Martha T. Sullivan (Ronald Berger), Mark Midyette (Becky), Debra Midyette, Norfleet Midyette; cousins, David Carlson and family, Linda Johnson and family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. in Monson. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Monson Free Library 2 High St. Monson, or the Friends of the Keep Homestead Museum, Monson or to a charity of your choice.
