Biography

Monson- Virginia M. Hill, 86, died Monday, February 4, 2013. Born June 18, 1926 in Marcus Hook, PA to the late John E. and Delema (Martin) Willey, she has been a resident of Monson for many years. Virginia had been a volunteer for the Red Cross since 1948. She organized many blood drives in Virginia and Connecticut and began coordinating blood drives in the Town of Monson in 1981. In 1991 she received the Clara Barton Award, the highest honor given to Red Cross volunteers. Virginia also volunteered at Wing Memorial Hospital from 1976-1983. In 1999 she was the Monson Rotary Citizen of the Year. She was active with the Monson Senior Center outreach committee, Monson Summerfest Committee and the Monson Emergency Shelter disaster committee.

Mrs. Hill was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Hill in 1995, a son W. Scott Hill in 2009, her parents and step-father Fletcher Harvey Martin. She leaves a son Guy W. Hill of Monson and a daughter Cheryl H. Bennett of New Jersey and three grandchildren Alex and Kate Bennett and Trenton Hill.

All services were private. Lombard Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Monson Senior Center Main St. Monson, MA 01057 or to the Red Cross Springfield, MA 01101.
