Sheldon Getchell

Sheldon H. Getchell, 73, of Old Wales Road, was called to his eternal heavenly home Tuesday, February 9, 2010 after a period of failing health. Born in Calais, Maine, June 20, 1936 to the late Stephen H. and Beaulah J. (Lee) Getchell he was a graduate of Calais High School. Sheldon lived in Plainville, MA for many years before moving to Monson in 1980. He was a quality control technician for Coca-Cola in East Hartford and retired in 2000. Sheldon was an Elder at the Crossway Christian Church in Palmer and was instrumental in the development and growth of the church. He was active in many capacities. He loved being with family and friends, enjoying life and the natural beauty of the world.
Sheldon leaves his wife of 53 years Evelyn (Kouroubacalis) Getchell and three children Ellen J. Dore` and her husband Rev. Daniel Dore` of South Attleboro, James S. Getchell and his wife Lori of Bondsville and Paula A. Watson and her husband Timothy of Wales; four sisters Hazel Carlow of Bondsville, Charlene Grant of Bucksport, ME, Sandra Lindsey of St. Stephen, New Brunswick and Linda Archer of Hampden, ME and thirteen grandchildren that gave him special joy.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday February 11, 2010 from 6-8pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 12, 2010 at Crossway Christian Church located at 1130 South Main St. in Palmer. A visiting hour will be from 10-11am with the service at 11am burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Crossway Christian Church, Baystate Regional Cancer Program 3350 Main St. Springfield, MA or to Pioneer Valley Dialysis Center 208 Ashley Ave. W. Springfield, MA.
