Biography

Monson- Robert Sedgwick Fay, 91, died on August 27, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home in Holyoke. Born in Palmer on April 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Robert S. Fay, Sr. and Constance (Moulton) Fay. Bob was educated at Monson Academy and Worcester Polytech. He was proud to be the fifth generation of his family to live in his beloved town of Monson. He served his country during WW II in the Army Engineers' 23rd Division in the South Pacific and Japan, and participated in the rebuilding of Japan at the War's end. After his military service Bob worked in the plastics industry in sales, quality control and management for 30 years, retiring from C.F. Church Company in Monson. He was a member of the First Church of Monson, Congregational, serving on many boards and committees including Trustees and Deacons. He was also a member of many town organizations including the Monson Historical Society, the Monson Home for Aged People as past president of the board of directors and corporator, and the Monson Savings Bank as a corporator.

Mr. Fay was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother Elizabeth Wight Fay, and his first wife of nearly 50 years, Grace Mizen Fay. Bob is survived by his wife Patricia Mederian Fay, his two daughters Candace Erickson (Richard) of Wilbraham and Elizabeth Fay (Louise Gauthier) of Assonet, MA, numerous nieces and a nephew.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Hillside Cemetery on Main Street in Monson at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to Monson Home for Aged People, 106 Main Street, Monson, MA 01057.
