Biography

Monson-Robert J. Coolong, 89, died Sunday January 20, 2013. Born in Palmer, January 16, 1924 to the late Loring and Lucia (Benner) Coolong, he has been a life long resident of Monson. Robert was a graduate of Monson High School and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. He was a former Monson road commissioner in the 1940's and he also worked for the Monson Highway Department. He worked for W.W. Jurczyk and then began his own excavation company in the 1950's. Bob enjoyed Big Band music and bird watching. His greatest joy came from family and the love of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Coolong was pre-deceased by his wife Sylvia in 1998. He leaves their children Robert J. Coolong Jr. and wife Karen of Monson, Glenn M. Coolong of Melrose, Barbara J. Royce and husband James of Monson, Ellen A. Haynes and husband James of Monson, Lucia A. Blanchette and husband Ray of Monson, Lori S. St. Marie and husband Norman of Monson; sister in-law Marjorie Marciniec and husband Frank of Three Rivers; eight grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his siblings, Albert, Lawrence, Charles, Joseph, Dorothy and Alice and a granddaughter Grace A. Ladue

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Lombard Funeral Home from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 23, 2013, 9:15 from Lombard Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick's Church. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery all in Monson. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish of Western MA 181 Park Ave West Springfield, MA 01089.
