Robert Avondo

Robert E. Avondo, 82, of Carpenter Road died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 surrounded by the love of his family. Born May 5, 1928 in West Springfield to the late John and Margaret M. (Daly) Avondo, he was raised in Agawam and has lived in Monson since 1981. Prior to moving to Monson he operated The Old Coffee Shop on the Mohawk Trail along with his wife Shirley. Upon moving to Monson they owned and operated Avondo's Bed and Breakfast for many years. Bob also worked and later retired from Monson Developmental Center and the Big Y in Palmer. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows in Charlemont and in Ware. Bob was an avid "Pitch" player and played in several area leagues. He will be missed by his many pitch partners.

Bob was pre-deceased by his wife Shirley M.(Barrett) Avondo in 2003. He leaves his daughters Kathleen Szymkiewicz and her husband John of Monson and Susan Strong and her husband James of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren Corrina Wcislow of Monson, Gregory Strong and his wife Cathy of AZ, and Derek Strong of CA; four great grand children Tyler and Harleigh Kwasnik of Monson and Conner and Madison Strong of AZ; and his faithful cat Linda. Robert was pre-deceased by his brothers John, Norman and Kenneth Avondo and his sisters Rita Szatkowski, Marion Gray and Mildred Fleming. He will be missed by all who knew him.
