Biography
Monson- Richard J. Griffin, 70, died Friday, November 7, 2014. Born in Palmer, November 3, 1944, to the late John F. and Helen E. (Dearden) Griffin, he was a graduate of Palmer High School and has been a lifetime local resident. Richard served in both the US Coast Guard and the Air Force Reserve. He worked at Uniroyal for several years before retiring from Hamilton Sustran in Windsor Locks, CT after 27 years. Richard was a member of the Springfield Rod &Gun Club in Monson. He enjoyed saltwater fishing, boating, hunting, camping, motorcycling and traveling.
Richard leaves his wife of 47 years, Janet E. (Davis) Griffin; thier son, James P. Griffin of Monson; two sisters, Anne Rosenthal of Stanford, CA and Margo Griffin Swanson of Palmer and a step brother Michael Griffin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 1pm in Hillcrest Cemetery on Wilbraham Road in Monson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Monson Fire Department Ambulance Fund PO Box 335 Monson, MA 01057 or to the Wing Memorial Hospital Oncology Department 40 Wright St. Palmer, MA 01069.
