It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, Captain George Emile Jean Louis Pellissier, on June 30, 2024. He was 59 years old.
George is survived by his wife Amy (Friedman) Pellissier of Quilcene, WA, his parents, Bernard and Muriel Pellissier of Monson, MA, and his siblings James Pellissier (with wife Joan Pellissier) of Eastham, MA and Theresa Viola of Glenville NY. George was preceded in death by his cherished sister Louise Droz of Palmer, MA.
George was born on January 7, 1965, to Bernard and Muriel Pellissier. He grew up in Monson, MA. George graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1987 with a degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, going on to a remarkable and distinguished 27-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard. During his service, George served aboard six cutters and rose to become Captain of the United States’ Pacific heavy ice-breakers Polar Star and Polar Sea. During his time in the Coast Guard, George travelled the world, including multiple trips to Antarctica. He held master’s degrees in marine engineering and mechanical engineering, a U.S. Coast Guard Master Mariner’s license and was a certified scuba diving instructor.
George was an award-winning wildlife photographer whose subjects were both above and below the sea. His photographs have appeared in multiple shows. George is remembered by his loved ones as determined, smart, strong, silly, organized and fun-loving. His heart was vast and generous. George was a long-time bachelor until he met the love of his life Amy in Miami, FL. They married in 2020 in Quilcene, WA. An animal lover, George also shared his life with his rescued dogs Lexye, Leon and Logan.
Services have been entrusted to Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge Street, Monson, MA. Visitation will be held Friday, July 19, 2024 from 9:30- 11am at the funeral home. A procession from the funeral home to Bethany Cemetery, Bethany Road in Monson will form for a 11:30 graveside service and Military Honors.
