Pauline P. Habel

1929-2008

MONSON - Pauline Janet (Peterson) Habel, 79, of Monson, Massachusetts, died Wednesday, June 11, at Wingate of Wilbraham. She was born in Brockton, MA, the daughter of Paul R. Peterson and Addie (Crocker) Peterson. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Douglas P. Habel. She leaves behind her three children, Dale Benoit and her husband, Francis, with whom she lived in Monson, Susan H. Emmanouilidis and her husband, Makis of Natick, MA and her son, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Douglas P. Habel, Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline, of Gainesville, VA. She also leaves her four grandchildren, Yiannis, Thespina, Lara and Jared, and one sister, Rae Peterson Selvy, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Madden Blaisdell.

Mrs. Habel was an active member of The First Church of Monson (Congregational) since 1960, a member of the women’s club at the Church known as the Hearts Willing Club, as well as a member of the Church Choir for many years, and had served on the Music Committee. Together, she and her husband were members of the Order of Eastern Star reaching the chairs of Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron. Mrs. Habel was a Corporator for the Monson Home for Aged People and also volunteered at the Monson Senior Center for many years and enjoyed dining out with the Once a Month Lunch Bunch from the Center.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 6-8pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson. A Funeral service will be held Tuesday June 17, 2008 at 10am in the funeral home. Burial will take place Tuesday afternoon at 3pm at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either The First Church of Monson (Congregational), 5 High Street, Monson, MA, to be used at the discretion of its Music Committee, or to The Monson Council on Aging for the benefit of the Monson Senior Center, 106 Main Street, Monson, MA 01057.
