Biography

Monson- Mary T. (Scanlon) Lawrence, 63, of Main St. died Monday, September 26, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born in Hyannis, MA to the late John and Arline (Silva) Scanlon. Mary was a foreign language teacher at Palmer High School for over ten years. She taught French, Spanish, and English as a second language. She taught in the Granby, Ware, and Monson School districts before retiring from Palmer. Mary was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Monson, active with the REC prison ministry program, involved with Cursillo, and a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Mary also worked for many years at the Monson Public Library.



Mary leaves her husband of more than 40 years, John "Jack" Lawrence; a son Jonathan R. Lawrence of Brighton, MA; a daughter Jacqueline M. Ladew and her husband Richard of Monson; a brother John Scanlon of Manchester, CT; three sisters Kathleen Smith of East Granby, CT, Martha Scanlon of Cambridge, MA and Veronica Bermingham and her husband Reeve of Windsor Locks, CT; three granddaughters Madeline and Katherine Ladew and Olivia Lawrence; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. A son Sean Lawrence in 2009 and a brother Jimmy Scanlon predeceased Mary.
