Biography

Monson- Mary (Carew) Emerson died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 with her family at her side. Born March 30, 1930 in Monson, MA to the late Ralph N. and Sarah (Broadfoot) Carew, she has been a life long resident of Monson. She was a graduate of Monson High School and Northampton Commercial College. Mary worked in the Monson School Department in the cafeteria and then was an associate buyer for WM. E. Wright LTD where she retired from after many years. She was a 67 year Member of the First Church of Monson, Congregational and a Charter Member and first President of the Hearts Willing Club at First Church. Mary was active on many church committees. She served as a former church clerk and church historian. She also served as a past superintendent of Sunday School and was a Sunday School teacher. For many years Mary worked at the Town election polls.

Mary was pre deceased by her husband of 60 years, William E. Emerson, October 12, 2012. She leaves their three daughters Deborah E. Szostek and her husband Paul of Monson, Patricia C. Emerson of Monson and Rebecca E. Schofield and her husband Brian of Monson; sisters Helen C. Morris of Brimfield, Sara Jean Ouellette of East Longmedow and Florence C. Fenton of Monson; brothers Ralph N. Carew of Wilbraham, and Dr. David P. Carew of Iowa; grandsons Daniel Szostek and his wife Lisa and Steven Szostek and his wife Caitlin and two great grandsons Edward and Joseph as well as many nieces and nephews and her special companion "Sunny". Mary was predeceased by her sisters Jessie C. Gates and Rachel C. Watrous and brother Allen Carew.


Visiting hours will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 1-4pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. in Monson. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3 at 10am in the First Church of Monson, Congregational, 5 High St. Monson. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson. The family would like to thank the staff at Wingate of Wilbraham for their care and support. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
