Monson-Martha A. âMartyâ? Valego, 61, of Monson passed away Friday, November 21 at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born on September 20, 1947 in North Brookfield to the late John and Mary (Schultz) Doros. Martha was a graduate of North Brookfield High School where she was so proud to be a cheerleader for 4 years.
After graduating in 1967 from Salter Secretarial School in Worcester, she worked as a legal secretary for several area lawyers. For the past 35 years, Martha has been a resident of Monson and a member of the First Church of Monson. She was a former chairman of the Monson Council on Aging and a former member of the Wing Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she served as an assistant buyer for the hospital gift shop in the 80âs.
Martha was an avid tennis player and a long time member of the Wilbraham and Ludlow Tennis Clubs and once competed on a Ludlow team in the USTA Nationals. She was a lover of babies, polka music, and her beloved Yorkie, Cali. She made her family her life and always felt privileged to be a stay-at-home mom. Her greatest joy was to give to others.
Martha leaves behind her loving husband of 39 years, Frederick, loving sons Matthew & partner Leticia Garcia of Sacramento, CA and Christopher & partner Olga Alicea of Campbell, CA, a brother John Doros and sister-in-law Mary Doros of North Brookfield, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a special aunt, Bertha Pockoski of Worcester. She also leaves behind two sister-in-laws, Mary Young & husband William of Naples, FL and Longmeadow, Barbara Owczarski & partner George OâConnor of Agawam, and one brother -in-law, Anthony Valego &wife Natalee of Bonita Springs, FL.
Her family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of her many friends who gave their loving support during her long illness. Special thanks goes to Dr. Rosen at Springfield Medical Associates, Dr. Schoonover at Wing Memorial Hospital Medical Center and the nurses and staff at Wing Memorial hospital who oversaw her care.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10am at the First Church of Monson, 5 High Street, Monson followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, Nov 24 from 5-8pm at Lombard Funeral Home, 3 Bridge St. Monson.
