Hampden

Hampden-Lawrence W. Hatch, 84, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 surrounded by love of family.  Larry was born in Stafford Springs, Ct to the late Carl H. and Barbara D. (King) Hatch.  He was a lifelong resident of Hampden.  Larry was a graduate of Agawam High School where they had an agricultural program.  He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver working for area companies before his retirement.

Larry was active for over 40 years with the Hampden Volunteer Fire Department, retiring as Chief. He was a member of the Mass Fire Chiefs Association and Hampden County Mutual Aid.  In the Town of Hampden, he served on the planning board for many years and was an auxiliary police officer in the 1970’s.

He was an avid NASCAR fan traveling to the Daytona 500 for 34 consecutive years and also visiting Louden and Dover as often as he could. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the bountiful harvest with family and friends.  He also enjoyed old engines and tractor shows.

Larry leaves his life partner, Eva A. Wiseman; his son, Carl A. Hatch and his wife Terry of Hampden; daughter, Linda J. Hatch of Palmer, step-son, Donald Wiseman and partner, Ellen Nelligan of Southbridge; six grandchildren, Karlyse, Samantha, Jeremy, Zachary, Melissa, Jonathan; five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Larry was predeceased by a son Edward L Hatch; his brothers, Rollyn, Richard and Norman as well as his best friend and partner in crime David “Davey” Sutcliffe.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, March 17th, 2024 from 1-4pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104.
