Monson/Wilbraham-Kathryn Marie (Larrow) Auclair, 91, formerly of Monson, MA, died peacefully surrounded by love of family on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Orchard Valley in Wilbraham. She was born in Springfield, MA on August 25, 1931 to the late Dr. Frank and Gertrude (Murphy) Larrow.
Kay grew up in Springfield, graduating from Cathedral High School. She then continued her education at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee. After earning her degree in 1953, she began working for the Springfield Public School System as an elemental grade school teacher.
After marrying her husband on June 26, 1954 the couple resided in Monson until late 2018, where they had raised their family.
In 1965, she returned to teaching as a substitute teacher in the Monson Public School System, and then in 1967 as a full-time elementary school teacher, until her retirement in 1993.
Kay was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish in Monson and a past member of the parish’s council of the Daughters of Isabella. For many years she made baptismal gowns for the newest parishioners of the parish.
She enjoyed spending time reading, solving crossword puzzles, tending to her vegetable garden, sewing and knitting.
Once retired from teaching, she volunteered for many years as reader for the Children’s Hour at the Monson Free Library.
Kay was a devoted wife to her husband of almost 66 years, Robert Auclair, prior to his death in 2020. In addition, she leaves her children; Robert, Pauline Wright and her husband Kevin, both of Monson, Joseph Auclair and his wife Jody of Marlborough, and Elizabeth Parker and her husband Scott of Sturbridge; her grandchildren, Erica (Amos) Nissenbaum, Kristen (Derek) Wright-Ng, Kathryn (James) Kosiba, Devin (Courtney) Auclair, Ryan and Amy Auclair, Erin and Ethan Parker; and her great-grandchildren Moira Ng, Collin and Joshua Kosiba, Elijah and Liliana Nissenbaum, Timothy and Miles Auclair. She also leaves her dear cousins, Dolores Bail of Madison Heights, MI and Frannie Lafleur of Fairhaven, MA.
During the last several years Kay enjoyed the new friends she met while living at Orchard Valley in Wilbraham. Her family is grateful to everyone at Orchard Valley for the care, compassion and personal attention they provided her during these years.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lombard Funeral Home of Monson. Funeral Liturgy for Kathryn and Robert will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church 22 Green St. in Monson Saturday, September17, 2022 at 11 am with burial following at Bethany Cemetery in Monson.
Friends are requested to gather directly at the church.
