Monson- Joseph E. Plato, 91, of Bethany Rd., died Friday, September 23, 2011 with family at his side. Born in Monson February 20, 1920 he has been a lifelong resident here.
Joe worked at Colorado Fuel & Iron in Palmer for many years. He then worked at the Monson Housing Authority and was the caretaker of St. Patrick's Church and Bethany Cemetery. Joe also did masonry work and was involved with the construction of the Quabbin Reservoir. He was a member of the Monson Polish Club where he had served as President and was also a bartender there. He was also an avid gardener.
Mr. Plato was pre-deceased by his wife Jeanne A. Levesque in 2004 and his daughter JoEllen Plato who passed September 21, 2011. He leaves his son James Plato and his wife Carol of Concord, NH; daughters Jean Bailey and her husband Ken of Monson, Kathy Campbell of Monson and Margaret Plato of Chicopee; brother in-law Gerald Levesque and his wife Bann of W. Warren, sister in-law Irene Plato of Palmer; three grandchildren Janine Campbell of CA, Derek Campbell of Monson, James Eric Plato of OR and several nieces and nephews.
