John C Benedict

Monson-John C. “Benji” Benedict, 73, passed away at home surrounded by love of family, Tuesday, January 21, 2025. John was born in Worcester to the late Julius T. and Evelyn l. (Waite) Benedict. He was a graduate of Palmer High School and has lived in Monson since 1973. “Benji” was a lineman/crew leader for Mass Electric now National Grid and retired after 41 years of service.

For many years John was a member and president of the Monson Rod and Gun Club, he served one term for the Monson Cemetery Commission and for many years he was an assistant at Lombard Funeral Home. John enjoyed hunting, fishing snowmobiling, camping, cooking, parties and playing cards. He could often be seen driving his Willy’s around town and in many town parades. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends helping wherever he could. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow and spending time with them.

John leaves his wife Kathy (Shields) Benedict; his beloved step children, Mathew McLeod and his wife Kayla of Stafford, Jennifer McLeod-Herrick of Monson; a sister, Teri Sonier and her husband Paul of Shrewsbury; brothers, Larry G. Benedict and his wife Susan of Worcester and Jay T. Benedict and his wife Patricia of Northborough; grandchildren, Eva Herrick, Mathew, Kourtney and Michael McLeod; family friend, Jody Szczepanek of Monson; nieces, nephews, extended family members in Maine and many friends.

Lombard Funeral Home of Monson has been entrusted with the arrangements. Visiting hours will be Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 1-4pm at the funeral home. A Funeral Service will be held Monday January 27, 2025 at 10am in the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson.
