Belchertown-Joanne Patricia (Grant) Leab, 72, died suddenly, Friday, March 1, 2013. Born in Springfield February 7, 1941 to the late Vail W. and Shirlie I. (Wiggin) Grant she graduated from Monson High School and Springfield School of Nursing. Joanne worked as an LPN at Mary Lane Hospital in Ware for several years before she started driving school bus for Monson and Pathfinder Regional School districts. She retired in 2000 after more than 20 years. Joanne lived in Monson until 2004 before moving to Belchertown. She loved reading, the beach, baking, spending time in Maine and Cape Cod. Her greatest joy came from being with family.
Joanne leaves her husband of 54 years, William H. Leab, Sr. and their children; William H. Leab, Jr. of Ludlow, Barbara A. Cote and her husband Bernard of Winter Park, FL, Christine W. Ellithorpe and her husband Mark of Bondsville and Jennifer M. Laisure and her husband William of Monson; a brother Jeffrey Grant of Easthampton and a sister Claire Beaudoin of Ware; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Joanne was predeceased by her daughter Kimberly L. Norton in 1992 and a sister Jacqueline Torres in 2010.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 4-7pm at Lombard Funeral Home, 3 Bridge St. Monson. Burial will be held in the Spring at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 54C Wayside Avenue West Springfield, MA 01089.
