Joan Knight

Biography

Wales-Joan A. (Kretchmar) Knight, 73, died Monday, February 4, 2013, surrounded by the love of family. Born in Stoneham, MA, July 1, 1939 to the late Osmond C. and Geneva G. (Stevens) Kretchmar, she has been a resident of Wales for more than 56 years. Joan was a nurses aid in several healthcare facilities. She was a member of the Palmer Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses and was active with their community Bible education. She was the animal control officer for the Town of Wales for a period of time, was a member of the Wales Senior Center and active in their pitch league. Joan enjoyed vacationing in Maine at the beach every summer. Her greatest joy came from her nurturing heart as she embraced family and friends every moment she could.

Joan leaves her husband, David J. Knight, Sr and their children; Shirley Gagne and her husband Ken of Monson, David J. Knight Jr. of Arkansas, Heidi Hamer and her husband Lee of Wales, Sharon Smith and her husband Jim of Monson, Heather Barrington and her husband Shane of Virginia; her brothers Peter Kretchmar of Southbridge, Phillip Kretchmar of Cape Cod; sisters Anne Oines of Alaska, Eva Baker of Andover; ten grandchildren, Beth, Robert, Katie, Julie, Jessica, David, Jordan, Russell, Elijah and Jonah; seven great grandchildren, Lailee, Nessa, Teagan, Bridgette, Anastaysia, Jacob and Petra. Joan was predeceased by a son Peter J. Knight.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Palmer Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wales Senior Center Wales, MA 01081.
