Jeanne Moore

April 11, 1931 — August 11, 2013

Monson-Jeanne Langlais Swanson Moore, formerly of Easthampton, MA and Westerly, RI, passed peacefully into eternal life on August 11, 2013 at the loving home of her sister, Joan Shields, of Monson, MA..

Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on April 11, 1931 to Edith Cross and Alphonse Langlais, Jeanne moved to Ware Massachusetts as a child, and was subsequently adopted by her stepfather, Earl Swanson. As a young woman Jeanne was a member of a 4-H canning club that required members to preserve 200 quarts of food each season, to support the war effort. She was a graduate of Monson High School.

On December 10, 1949 Jeanne Mae Swanson was married to Charles Bradley Moore of Monson, and they were devoted to each other until his death in 1991.

The couple made their home in Easthampton, MA, where Jeanne was an active member of the Providence United Methodist Church, and the Women's Society, and volunteered her considerable sewing talents to the annual church fair. Jeanne was also a dedicated baker and an avid gardener, who passed these skills on to her daughters, along with dozens of Christmas fruitcakes, and home-grown vegetables for friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Moore was employed as a switchboard receptionist for Northampton Institute of Savings. She eventually became President of the former Hampton Warehouse and Industrial Properties of Easthampton, at One Ferry Street. In 2004 Jeanne retired to Westerly, Rhode Island, where she enjoyed hosting family and friends.

Jeanne Moore traveled much of the world. Over the years she flew the Concorde, sailed the QEII, and had floated in hot air balloons. Whenever she encountered children who were well-behaved, she took delight to reward them with a Kennedy half-dollar. Jeanne kept Christmas in her heart, and shopped the whole year through. Her generosity and her sense of humor, even in illness, will long be remembered.

Mrs. Moore leaves her four children, Lynn Chase (formerly of Verona, NJ), Jo-Ann Moore (of Bonner Springs, Kansas), Laura Moore (of Columbia, Missouri), and C. Carl Moore and wife Kim, (of Scituate, Massachusetts), to mourn her loss. Jeanne also leaves her two beloved grand daughters, Micala and Morgan Moore of Scituate; her cherished sister, Joan Shields of Monson, her brother Earl Swanson and family of Orlando, Florida; dear friend Beverly Graves of Hadley, MA; treasured in-laws and cousins; and three generations of adoring nieces and nephews. She was our "Auntie Mame."

The family suggests that any charitable donations made in Mrs. Moore's memory might be sent to the Monson-Glendale United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 315, 162 Main Street, Monson, MA 01057; the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (www.tbdalliance.org) which supports research and physician training for Lyme Disease; or Alzheimer's Association, Western MA Office, 153 Magazine St. Springfield, MA 01109.
