James F Murphy

January 10, 1947 — April 22, 2017

Monson- James F. Murphy, 70, died Saturday, April 22, 2017, surrounded by the love of family.  Jim was born in Holyoke January 10, 1947 to the late James W. and Viola  (Wenig) Murphy.  He was a graduate of Springfield Trade School  and has been a longtime resident of Monson.  Jim retired from Monsanto/Solutia in 2012.   Prior to working at Monsanto he worked at American Bosch, Chapman Valve and Marty’s Soda Company. Jim was an active communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Monson.  He was a member of the Day Spring Lodge of Masons and Springfield Sportsman Club.  He was an avid New England sports fan, enjoyed restoring cars, collecting guns, hunting and fishing.   Jim was very proud of all his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports.  He also enjoyed day trips with his best friend Royal.

James leaves his beloved wife of 49 years Rose F. (Cleary) Murphy and their children; Michelle Phipps and her husband Marcus of Monson, Douglas Murphy and his wife Laurie of Wilbraham, Thomas Murphy and his wife Tracy of Monson; grandchildren, Miranda, Merissa, Montana, Brooke, Bryanna, Tennessee, Douglas,Jr., Carly and Jonathan; a brother, Edward Murphy of Chicopee; sisters, Nancy Murphy, Janice Desrouche of Chicopee, June Weigel and her husband Richard of Springfield; sister in-law Valerie Murphy; his dogs Molly and Bear and his cat Abbylane.  Jim was predeceased by a grandson Patrick and a brother Kenneth Murphy.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10am in St. Patrick's Church, Green St. Monson, burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery also in Monson.  Friends are asked to gather directly at the church.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 5-8pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson.
