J. Bradford Powers

Brimfield- J. Bradford Powers, 76, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 surrounded by family. Born March 24, 1935 in Worcester to the late James G. Powers and Jeannette (Pickering) Powers Bennett, he has been a longtime resident of Brimfield. Brad served in the Army from 1957-1960. He was a graduate of Clark University, he also received his Post-Graduate Diploma in Regional Planning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and he received his MPhil (PhD equivalent) in Town Planning from the University of London in England. Professor Powers was a faculty member at Dean Junior College for many years as well as Assumption College and had also taught at the Bradford College Institute of Urban Studies. He served on the Brimfield School Committee, was a representative to the Tantasqua Regional School Committee, served as Vice-Chairman of the Finance Committee in Brimfield and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's Church in Palmer.

Brad leaves his wife of 45 years Cynthia K. (Bagster-Collins) Powers; two sons, Jeremy B. Powers and his wife Yana of Longmeadow and Nicholas J. Powers of Brimfield; a daughter Stephanie E. Hicks and her husband Jeffrey of Fayetteville, NC; five grandchildren, Savannah and Dylan Hicks, Ari Powers and Victoria Powers and Hailey Powers, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by his sister Frances Powers-Murphy in 1998.

A memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11am in Holy Trinity Church, 446 Hamilton St. in Southbridge. There will also be Shiva Services at the home of Jeremy and Yana Powers, Merriweather Dr. in Longmeadow, Wednesday at 7pm, Thursday at 7pm and Sunday at 7pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church 446 Hamilton St. Southbridge, MA 01550 or to Clark Fund at Clark University 950 Main St.
