IRENE GUILMETTE HAUGHEY

CHICOPEE- Irene Ann (Heintz) Guilmette Haughey, 72, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 with her husband James and her family at her side at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Springfield, MA to the late Arthur F and Josephine (DePace) Heintz. She grew up on Bethany Rd. in Monson, graduating from Monson High School in 1965.Irene leaves her loving husband of 11 years, James F. Haughey; her two sons, Daniel H. Guilmette of Metheun, MA and Neal H. Guilmette and his wife, Carolann of Westerly, RI. She loved being a “Grammie” to her grandchildren, Nathanael and Natalie Guilmette of Westerly, RI. As well as her step-children, Michelle Ricker of Belchertown, MA; Scott Haughey of Chicopee, MA and Kimberly Zanoli of Ware, MA.

She also leaves her step-grandchildren, whom, she loved as if they were her own: Breeanna Shaw, Caitlyn Haughey, Meggan Harper and Jake and Ella Ricker. She leaves her sisters, Josephine Frederick of Chicopee, MA and Helen Haley and her husband Bob of Eugene, OR. Irene was predeceased by her brother Henry Heintz and sister Joan Bacon. Irene also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who lovingly called her Auntie Rene. Irene was a dedicated Hospice Volunteer for seven years. She was also active in the Cancer Support Group at Mercy Medical Center for many years and a communicant of St. Rose de Lima Parish in Chicopee.

She worked for MassMutual for 21 years as a client service representative, retiring in 2007. She was previously married to her high school sweetheart, Howard “Butch” Guilmette for 40 years before his passing in 2006. Since Howard was a career soldier in the US Army, Irene enjoyed traveling and has lived many places including MA, CO, NC, CA, HI and Wiesbaden Germany. She loved her family dearly, and loved family get togethers, traveling anywhere, anytime. Most especially her Walt Disney World with her grandkids.

She would like to be remembered as a caring loving person, who loved life and was so thankful for a Second Chance at Marriage to her husband Jim Haughey on May 16, 2009. A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, February, 18, 2020 at 11AM in Lombard Funeral Home, 3 Bridge St., Monson, MA 01057. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 9AM-11AM.

The burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery, Monson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to Holyoke Hospice and VNA, 20 Hospital Dr., 3rd Flr, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Autism Speaks, 88 Broad St., 5th Flr, Boston, MA 02110.
