Gordon "Gene" E Stone

September 27, 1936 — November 20, 2021


Palmer-Gordon E. Stone, 85, aka Papa Gene, passed away, Saturday, November 20, 2021 surrounded by love of family.  Gene was born September 27, 1936 to Gordon R. and Beth (Bissell) Stone.  He was a graduate of Palmer High School and continued his education at AIC and WNEC (now WNEU) and then graduated from Northeastern University in Boston in the evening division, while working at the First National Bank of Boston and living in Arlington, MA.  He was employed by United Fruit in NYC while living in Parsippany, NJ. Upon returning to Palmer, he worked at Walker Motor Sales, Bertera Chevrolet and retired after 17 years from Wing Memorial Hospital in the Medicare Billing Department.  He could always be found tending to his beautiful yard, fruit trees, bushes and flowers.  Gene was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Palmer and sang in its choir for many years.  He was a Boy Scout and Past Master Councilor of Wickaboag Chapter, Order of DeMolay. Along with his father, he founded Pioneer Valley Chapter of DeMolay and was a MC of that chapter.  He served on the state DeMolay installing suite.  Gene was awarded the degree of Chevalier.  Gene was a 50 year member of  the Thomas Lodge, AF&AM, Order of Masons.  He was a member of the Northampton branch of SPESBSQSA, barbershop quartet organization.

Gene was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Sarah (Lombard) Stone in 2008. He leaves his children, George Stone and his wife Tracy of Grand Cayman Island, Tricia Arling and her husband Tim of Cromwell, CT; a sister, Barbara J. Stone of Palmer; grandchildren, Colton Stone and his wife Angie of Poland, ME, Brandon Stone of Greene, ME, Jennifer and Allison Arling of Cromwell, CT; a step grandson, Alec McLaughlin  of Portland , ME; a great grandson, Theodore Stone; an aunt, Audrey Bissell of Goshen; a niece, Lissee Lombard and nephew, Francis Lombard as well as many cousins around the country.

Visiting hours will be held, Friday, November 26, 2021 from 5-8pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10am in Lombard Funeral home with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Monson.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation in Gene's name to Second Congregational Church 1080 Pleasant Street Palmer, MA 01069.
