George Calkins

George H. Calkins, 79, died December 14, 2009 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Monson September 24, 1930 to the late Harrison J. and Greta H. (Colburn) Calkins he has been a life long resident here. George joined the US Air Force in 1951 and served until 1955. He also was a Mason and belonged to the Day Spring Lodge in Monson. George was a tool designer for many years and worked at various tool places including Pratt and Whitney. He was a life member of the Monson Historical Society and was a member of the Calkins World Family Genealogy Society. He also collected antiques for many years. George's family would like to thank the Quaboag VNA and East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center for their care and compassion shown to George throughout his illness.

George leaves his nieces Karen Allen of Monson and JoAnn Adams of Wilbraham; his nephew Sanford H. Smith of Monson and his devoted partner Doug Schenk of Wales and several grand nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 5-7pm with a service at 7pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quaboag Valley VNA 42 Wright St. Palmer, MA 01069.
