Francis O'Shea

Monson- Francis J. O'Shea, 83, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at home surrounded by the love of family. He was born April 5, 1929 in Worcester, MA to the late Bennett and Annie O'Shea He was a graduate of St. John's High School in Worcester and was the class Valedictorian. He then graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester and Seminary College in Canada. Fran continued his education by taking graduate courses at Assumption College in Worcester and he received his Master's degree in Psychology. Fran was a Psychologist for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation from 1970-1992. Before his retirement he received the Department of Mental Retardation Pride in Performance Award. Fran was a member of the Board of Directors at Monson Developmental Center for many years. After he retired he continued as a volunteer at MDC by taking clients into the community. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Monson and taught CCD classes for many years. He loved to play golf and watch New England sports teams.

Fran leaves his loving wife of 42 years, Anne M. (Laprade) O'Shea, with whom he had a dinner date with every Friday night for 42 years. He also leaves his daughter Bridget O'Shea Bates and her husband Charles Bates of Chicopee; Lisa Robbins and her husband Denis Moriarty of Ware, and a stepson Peter Holm; his brothers Stephen O'Shea and his wife Mary of Worcester and Rev. James B. O'Shea of Worcester. Fran also leaves his grandson, who was the love of his life, Liam Patrick Bates and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 1-4pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson. Funeral services will be Monday, June 4, 2012, beginning at 10:15 from Lombard Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Patrick's Church in Monson. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial contributions be made to the John Schinelli Memorial Fund, c/o Mr. Raymond Pleczarka 99 River St. Agawam, MA 01001 or to Baystate VNA and Hospice 50 Maple St. Springfield, MA 01102.
