Monson-Erwin G. âMitchâ? Mitchell, 82, of High St. died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Wingate at Wilbraham. Born in Vernon, Ct to the late Erwin G. and Maude (Metcalf) Mitchell he graduated from Rockville High School and then after serving in the U.S. Navy he attended Manchester Trade School. Mitch retired from Zero Manufacturing in Monson after 35 years as a Tool & Die Maker. He then worked for the Monson School department for 13years as a custodian. He coached recreation baseball and enjoyed candlepin bowling. He had a love of camping and deep sea fishing. He was involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Troop 776 of Monson, as a Scout Master for 35 years. Mitch was also active with the Monson Senior Center and delivered for the âMeals on Wheelsâ? program for 15 years. He was awarded the "Citizen of the Year" by the Monson Rotary Club. He leaves his wife of 56 years Betty (Grammo) Mitchell and a son Robert Mitchell and his wife Susan of Brimfield. A brother Arthur Mitchell and his wife Louise of Willington, CT; sister Alice Bugbee of Norwich; two grandchildren Brian Mitchell and Jennifer Mitchell both of Brimfield. and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008, beginning at 9am from Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. with a Funeral Mass at 10am in Bethany Charismatic Catholic Church on Dunhamtown-Palmer Rd in Brimfield with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Monson. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-7pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of oneâs choice.
