Elizabeth H. Cowles

1936-2008

Monson-Elizabeth “Bettyâ€? H. Cowles, 72, of Lincoln Place died suddenly September 26, 2008 at her home. Born in Springfield to the late John J. And Eunice (House) Dillon she has been a resident of Monson since 1957. Betty retired in 1999 as an administrative assistant in the trust department from the former BayBank and Bank Boston after 14 years of service. Prior to her position in banking she worked at many local companies as an office assistant and was a pre-school teacher for a number of years in Monson.

Retirement did not slow her down. People would often see her walking about town with one of her many “four legged â€? friends that she took care of. She will be deeply missed by all of the dogs and their owners.

She was an active member of the First Church of Monson Congregational, where she enjoyed singing with the choir and participated in many church committees. Betty was also a member of the Monson Arts Council and the Senior America Cameo Club of Massachusetts. She participated in many plays and productions, in various roles, with both groups.

Betty leaves her daughter Tracy Cowles-Rambhia and her husband Sanjay Rambhia of Middletown, CT ; two sons Scott Cowles of New Iberia , LA and Wayne Cowles and his wife Rear Admiral Michelle Howard of Springfield , VA. Her siblings Ernest Dillon of Gales Ferry, CT, Edward Dillon of Cranston, RI, Virginia Stevens of Meridan, CT, Eunice “Cookieâ€? Courtney of Wales, and Bernice Courtney of Southbridge, MA and her grand daughter Elizabeth Rambhia who gave her countless hours of joy. She was predeceased by brothers Jack Coutney and John Dillon.

A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Monson, Congregational on Saturday November 8, 2008, at 10:30am. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Monson, Congregational, Organ/Music Fund High St. Monson , MA 01057 or to the MSPCA in Springfield . Lombard Funeral Home of Monson has been entrusted with the arrangements.
