Monson-Edward Freeman Clark, 84, passed away on July 25, 2012, at his home, Stillmeadow Farm, in Monson, Massachusetts.
Born May 24, 1928, at the Pitcher Farm House on Round Top Farm in Damariscotta, Maine, Edward was the oldest of eleven, and always fondly remembered playing war with his siblings because as the eldest he got to play general.
As a teenager, Edward moved to Wales, Massachusetts, to live with his aunt and uncle in their small home on Lake George. He graduated from Hitchcock Free Academy as Valedictorian in 1948 where, as a young man, he loved basketball and track, journalism, reading, writing, religion, weight lifting, making tape recordings, photography, making movies & politics all of which remained lifetime interests & hobbies. He then attended Franklin College in Indiana.
Edward worked 39 years at Diamond International in Palmer where he ended his career as the manager of the Quality Control department in 1993 . At the same time that he worked at Diamond, he was also a small business owner (Clarks TV Service) and the Wales news reporter for station WARE for a number of years.
In 1985 Edward and Nancy left their Wales home for a home in the woods of Monson, where Edward added gardening and cutting his own firewood to his list of hobbies. In addition, Edward got more room in his barn to collect military memorabilia, and continued his photography and movie making hobbies.
Edward leaves behind Nancy, his beloved wife of 54 years; two daughters, Amy Clark Haden and her husband Gary of Scottsville, Virginia, and Laura Clark Rogers and her husband Eric of Monson, Massachusetts; and a grandson, Thomas Rogers. He also leaves behind his siblings: Errol Clark, Frank Clark, Shirley Lapierre, Margarita Clark, sister Geraldine Gravell and husband, Richard, brother Ellis Bailey and wife Susan, and sister Henrietta Rankin and husband, Edgar.
He was preceded in death by his father Frank L. Clark; mother, Doris Simmons Clark Bailey; sister Ruth Levalle; and brothers Theodore W. Clark Sr., and Larry Bailey.
The family wishes to thank all those dedicated caregivers who helped care for Edward both at Wing Memorial Hospital and Wing Hospice of Palmer.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 3, 2012 at 7pm at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson, MA. Visiting hours will precede the service beginning at 5pm. The family asks in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Monson Free Library, 2 High St. Monson, MA 01057.
