Earl R Cathro

Holyoke-Earl Robert Cathro passed away on February 16, 2020 at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke, MA. He was born December 20, 1944 in Holyoke, MA. Earl graduated from Sacred Heart High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Hornet for four years from 1963-1967. He was a radar operator during the Vietnam War. Later he worked as a surveyor for Tighe and Bond. He retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts working as a road construction inspector.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edna D. Cathro, sister, Martha Usher Poole, and brother Thomas D. Cathro. He is survived by his sister, Doris J. Solt (Charles), nieces and nephews: Lynn Usher, Arthur Usher (Nancy), David Usher (Michelle), Michael Usher (Cyndi), Christine Savage (Eric), and Katherine Solt. Great nieces and nephews: Jessica Hogan (Alan), Ashley Rebelo (Andrew), Brittany Young (Jeff), Jeffrey Usher, Emily Usher, Haley Gaudette, Isabella and Maya Usher. Great, great, nieces and nephews, Sterling and Morgan Young, William J. Savage, Dublin and Finnegan Hogan, Vivienne and Sawyer Rebelo, and brother-in-law, David Poole.

Special thanks to Nancy Usher for her years of devotion and care for Earl and to the nurses at the Soldier’s Home, especially Paulette.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to the Memorial Fund at the Soldiers Home of Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA.

A private family burial will be on February 29th at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley, MA.
