Dorothy "Dottie" M (Mcdonald) Cox

June 13, 1937 — June 4, 2021


Holland- Dorothy "Dottie" M. Cox, 83, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 4, 2021 at the home of her son, Ryan and Kelly in Sturbridge surrounded by family and love.   Dottie was born June 13, 1937 to the late Richard McDonald and Helen (Jackson) McDonald Westergard. She was raised in Michigan by her mother Helen and step-father Olaf Westergard.  Dottie was educated in Michigan and was a graduate of Vandercook Lake High School.  Dottie raised her family in Michigan and was a foster parent there before moving to Western Mass in 1978.  She and her husband continued to be foster parents caring for over 350 babies before they retired at age 80.  Dottie was a foster mom for over 50years.  She enjoyed crafts, shopping and cooking.  She enjoyed spending time at the Cabin in the Woods where  her children and grandchildren would often join her. She had a sense of humor and would often play practical jokes on family and friends.  Her greatest joy came from being with her husband and family.
Dottie leaves her loving husband of 64 years, Robert E. Cox, Sr.; sons, Randy L. Cox of Holland, Ryan A. Cox and his wife Kelly of Sturbridge; a daughter, Renee A. Fitzgerald and her husband Gregory of Milford, NH; sisters, Doris Young of Traverse City, MI and Cyndee Delk of Idaho; fourteen grandchildren, Matthew, Mike, Ashlynn, Jessica, Sarah, Isabella, Brandyn, Shawn, Michaela, Megan, Chelsea, Brittany, Ben and Will and 14 great grandchildren.  Dorothy was predeceased by a son Robert E. Cox, Jr and her brother in-law, Karl Young.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 13, 2021 from 1-3pm in Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson, MA.  A service of remembrance will be held at 3pm to conclude the afternoon.  Burial will be held at a later time in Michigan.
