Monson-Doris (Lane) Butcher, 91 died peacefully, September 12, 2013, with her loving daughter by her side. Doris was born in Ware, December 28, 1921, to John and Rose (Bourgeault) Lane. She spent her childhood and was educated in Palmer, graduating from Palmer High School in 1939. She met and married the love of her life Joseph Butcher in 1944 and later moved to Monson where she lived the rest of her life.
Doris enjoyed a career at Mass Mutual retiring in 1984. She was also a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Monson. During WWII she worked at Westover AFB, achieving the status of Junior Mechanics Rating, an accomplishment reached by very few woman and one of which she was very proud. Doris enjoyed camping with her family and was an avid RedSox fan, hardly ever missing a game. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, some of whom she knew since childhood. Most of all she loved being with her family including her three granddaughters and four great grandchildren. Doris's home served as the gathering place on Sunday afternoon's for family card games and meals. She took great pride in her home making it a welcoming place. A special legacy left by Doris is her generous heart and her ability to always see the good in others.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joseph in 1994, her only son Ronald in 1961, and her great-grandson Tanner Simpkiss in 2002, her sisters Gertrude Cole and May Ruth Orluk. She is survived by her brother Norman Lane and his wife Mary of South Hadley, her daughter Joyce Pikul and her husband Anthony of Monson; granddaughters, Kimberly Sommers of Manchester, NH, Kelly Simpkiss and her husband Joseph of Palmer, Kristen O'Connor and her husband Jeffrey of Springfield; great grandsons Hunter, Evan and Shea and great granddaughter Lilly Lane. She also leaves behind her faithful companion, her dog Teddy. The family wishes to thank the staff at Wingate of Hampden for their loving care and kindness.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 beginning at 9:15am from Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St., with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick's Church, burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery all in Monson. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund PO Box 473 Monson, MA 01057.
