Chester Holda

July 3, 1925 — October 21, 2013

Monson-Chester S. Holda, 88, died Monday October 21, 2013 surrounded by the love of family. Born in West Thompson, CT to the late Joseph J. and Victoria (Kapoka) Holda, he was a graduate of Monson High School and a US Army veteran of WWII. Upon returning from the war he continued his education and was a graduate of Bryant College in Smithfield, RI. Chet worked at Monson Savings Bank beginning 1969 and served as President from 1988 until his retirement in 1992. Chet was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and was active in many civic organizations including serving on the Monson Board of Selectman, Corporator and Trustee for Monson Savings Bank, member of the Monson Polish American Citizen Club, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod, loved to garden, enjoyed teaching his children to ski, and tackled any home improvement project.

Chet was predeceased by his wife Alice F. (Kowalewski) Holda in 1993. He leaves his daughters Mary Gravel and her husband David of Ware, Theresa Davis of Monson, and Margaret Bouchard and her husband David of West Brookfield; his brother Edward Holda of Wilbraham and his sister Stella Zerdecki of Three Rivers; two granddaughters Emily and Abigail Bouchard and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 beginning at 9:15 am at Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St. Monson, with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick's Church, burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery both in Monson. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Monson Fire Department Ambulance Fund PO Box 335 or St. Patrick's Restoration Fund PO Box 473 Monson, MA 01057.
