Charles "Babe" Johnson Jr. & Mae E. (Bristol) Johnson
Charles "Babe" Johnson, Jr. passed away at his home in Yucaipa, CA on November 5, 2007, he was 94 years old. Born in Monson, Massachusetts on February 3,1913. Son of Charles Johnson Sr. and Alma (Anderson) Johnson. He was husband to Mae E. (Bristol) Johnson of 74 years. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters, Edward Johnson & Carl Johnson, Fredia J. Leveille, Ruth J.Cantwell, Violet J. Vadnais and Alma J. Lynch. Mae E.(Bristol) Johnson passed away in Redlands,CA on June 23, 2011. She was born to George and Amelia G. (Beaulieu) Bristol in Massachusetts on December 22, 1914. She was predeceased by two brothers Irwin Bristol and Elmer Bristol.
Babe and Mae were predeceased by one daughter, Lucille M. (Johnson) Howlett. They leave two grandchildren Mark Jameson and Robin Broderick and seven great grandchildren.
During W.W. II, Babe was a motorcycle tester for Indian Motorcycles of Springfield Mass. He was the Founder and President of the Quaboag Riders Motorcycle Club. This organization was established in 1943 and began in Babe's Garage. Babe won both the national hill climb championship in Laconia, New Hampshire as well as first place in the expert event at the Monson hill climb.
Babe and Mae were the owners of a family Restaurant in Monson for many years in the 40's and 50's. He had a television sales business and owned and operated his own Automobile Repair Garage both in Monson, MA. Mae worked for a cable company in Palmer, MA for many years until moving to CA. Babe and Mae have resided in Yucaipa, California for more than 30 years.
They were members of the First Congregational Church of Monson, active in the Mr & Mrs. Club and continued membership in the First Congregation Church of Redlands,CA until thier death.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 1pm at Hillside Cemetery in Monson.
