Biography
Monson-Catherine M. (Hipsky) Holda, 94, died May 30, 2011 at Wingate in Hampden, MA. In her final hours, she was with her children and passed away peacefully. Catherine was born to immigrant parents from Czechoslovakia at the family farmhouse in West Willington, CT. The youngest of 10 children of John and Kathrin (Rusnak) Hipsky. She is survived by her older sister Velma Duhansky of Tolland, CT. Her husband Matthew J. Holda, WWII veteran, predeceased her March 13, 1987. Also her sisters Amelia Parizek, Etty Hlasney, Mary Hipsky, Arlene Parizek; her brothers, John, Paul, Andrey, and Joseph Hipsky.
She leaves her loving children, Mary Masse of Palmer, Rose Marie Picard and her husband Paul, James Holda and his wife Lori all of Monson. Her grandchildren; Richard, Shawn and Todd Haley, Jennifer Ruess, Jonathan, Matthew and Kelcey Holda, Kristen Cierpich, Nichole McDonnell, Justin, David and Luke Picard. Great Grandma to Shawn,Jacob, Ethan and Liam Haley; Ashley, David and Elizabeth Reuss; Lily and Adohan McDonnell; Harmony, Landon and Logan Picard; Natalie and Freddy Cierpich; several step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Monson. Before her marriage in 1937 she worked at the Parizek Button Factory and during the war at C.F. Church Company. After her children were grown, she worked almost 20 years at the former Springfield Moulders in Monson. In 1979, she survived breast cancer, living 32 more years enjoying family, friends, the beach, dancing and listening to Polka music. Catherine was a gentle, loving, caring lady and was always smilling. She loved her pictures, videos, her car and drove until age 93. Her passion was working outdoors, planting her vegetable and flower garden.
Funeral services HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY June 8, 2011 beginning at 9:15 from Lombard Funeral home 3 Bridge St. with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Patrick's Church with burial at Bethany Cemetery all in Monson.
