Monson

Monson – Alan “Butch” E. Lunden, 83, passed away on, Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after an illness. He was born in Springfield on September 20, 1940, to Carl W. and Doris E. (Ryan) Lunden.

After graduating from high school, Alan enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and served four years of active duty before being honorably discharged in 1964. He spoke often about his time at Travis Air Force base and how he enjoyed California.  He lived most of his life in Monson and was a truck driver for many years at Turnberg Construction Company in Hampden before retiring in 2002. In his leisure, Alan enjoyed putting around the farm, hunting and fishing. He had a real love of NASCAR, Johnny Cash, old classic vehicles and tractors.

Alan leaves his daughter, Rebecca L. Mycyk and her husband, Andrew of Gloucester, VA; his granddaughter, Taylor Young of Ware; his great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Everleigh; his sister, Marylin J. Proctor of Winchendon; his former wife, Nancy (Stacy) Lunden of Ridgeland, SC; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia M. Lacombe; and many old-time friends that he shared so many wonderful memories with. The stories he could tell were endless.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday December 12, 2023, at 3 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, P.O. Box 40726, Nashville, TN 37204.
